Parks levy passes resoundingly: $$ for Interurban bridge
Voters in King County have overwhelmingly endorsed the 2026-32 county parks levy, which includes money for trails, including the proposed crossing of SR 104 on the Interurban. Voters appear to be favoring the measure by 73% - a figure similar to the previous levy, which passed with 72% approval.
Funding a safer crossing over the state highway, which carries some 42,000 vehicles a day, has been a major component of North Sound Bicycle Advocates’ activities.
Five million dollars have been identified for the Interurban crossing - not enough to actually build a bridge but certainly enough to cover a route study and establish a future pool of money towards developing plans for a bridge.
We will keep you informed as more details emerge in how King County Parks & Recreation will work with the City of Shoreline on the bridge. Meanwhile, the City of Edmonds will be asking voters to approve a levy lift, a mechanism to collect additional property tax, in November. Some of the additional tax money will go to funding staffing in public works that has been cut because of the city’s budget crisis. Edmonds mayor Mike Rosen has previously indicated he would support using city staff to help coordinate a route study for an improved Interurban Trail between Shoreline and Edmonds.
