King County Parks levy includes $5M for bridge study

King County council member Rod Dembowski is a big supporter of a bridge across SR 104 between Shoreline and Edmonds. (Shoreline is in King County and Edmonds in Snohomish County: the jurisdictional line is SR 104.) He attended a site visit lead by North Sound Bicycle Advocates in 2024 and encouraged us to “think big.”

He supported the renewal of the King County Parks levy, which will raise $1.5B over six years. Some $5M of those funds will be allocated to advance the case for a bridge over SR 104 on the Interurban Trail.

Portions of the previous levy was awarded to cities in King County to help them fund trail and parks projects in their own jurisdictions. The 2025 levy proposal includes a similar approach. Overall, the levy provides funds to further Eastrail and other trails throughout King County, including the southern section of the Interurban, which runs from Renton southwards.

Voters in King County will cast their votes in the election August 5. If approved by voters, funds from the levy will take effect in January, 2026.

North Sound Bicycle Advocates will be working with King County and the City of Shoreline, which has separately set aside $40,000 towards a route study for crossing SR 104, to provide input.
